PT

Just about to head off to my first day of physical therapy. In addition to my chronic low back disc-bulging dilemma, I will also be getting therapy for this.

If I can type later, I'll let you know how it went.

Laura I so sympathise/empathise with the shoulder problem...I also have this and over recent years have had steroid injections in my left shoulder twice.....and at the moment I'm having trouble sleeping comfortably because of it....Anyhoo...what happened with your back? hope you get on well with your therapy.....

Believe it or not Deirdre, I used to be a powerlifter--I weighed about 60 pounds more than I do now at my heaviest and a nice bit of that was muscle weight. I had been lifting/working out for some time and had only recently gotten into powerlifting when I injured myself. I had one competition under my belt and was in training for a second. One day I went to put a hundred-pound plate onto a leg press machine and since it was lying there in a tight space between two machines I was a little twisted when I lifted it up. Just a few inches, mind. But that was enough to injure my back.

I have had 20 years of ups n' downs with it--probably never a day completely pain-free, but there have been times I've still been able to do very physically demanding things. And then there are times when I haven't been able to stand up. Or have taken 30 minutes just to get out of bed.

My last BAD spell was 2 years ago, when my back went into spasms I can only describe as being very much like a labor contraction--they came on as quickly and hurt just as bad, except on the other side of my body. In fact, they were so bad that paramedics had to come and get me--they found me leaning over my mother's bed, looking like I was waiting to be buggered. Had to strap me into a chair and carry my to the ambulance.

ANYHOO--I've finally decided to really take care of it now, as best I can. Brandon, my son's father, just had back surgery a month ago for a severly herniated disc. I guess that prompted me to see if there was any way I didn't have to live with the constant pain I've lived with for half my life. The doctor wants me to try physical therapy for a couple of months and if there's no improvement then we'll be talking to a neurosurgeon.

As far as the rotator cuff injury?? No freakin' clue. My arms just started hurting a couple of months ago--if you've had this you know. It's painful to take a shirt off. I can't sleep because my arms hurt so much. It's both arms, too.

Yesterday went OK--just a few exercises for the shoulder and then ultrasound therapy. We'll see what happens.

I'll keep you apprised of my progress.

If you needed help taking your shirt off, you should have just said so.

No fair, I was gonna say that. However, by rule of proximity I think my offer gets a higher ranking than yours :)
